The Tall Ship Formidable originally sailed during the summer from the Boston Waterboat Marina from May through October from 2002 until 2008. Cruises of Boston Harbor lasting 2 hours were offered daily (except Mondays).
Beginning in 2005, Saturdays were reserved for special harbor battles with her sister ship, the Poincare, with re-enactments of particular naval battles occurring each month from June to August with cannons blazing and flags flying.
Daily cruises of the harbor when they were offered were at 11 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM and 5 PM.
The Saturday Harbor Battle cruises took place at 11 AM, 2 PM and 5 PM.
The Formidable could accommodate 49 passengers on each sail although most bookings were limited to no more than 40 passengers. Ticket prices were $25 for adults and $10 for children under 18.
Captain Russ Tryder of Pirate Ship Charters has now taken the helm of the Formidable sailing from Tuna Wharf in Rockport, Maine. Pirate Ship Charters offers three 1 1/2 hour daily cruises at 11 AM, 1 PM and 3 PM as well as a 2 hour sunset cruise at 6 PM.
