Welcome to the Tall Ship Formidable Page!

The Tall Ship “Formidable” is an 18th century style, square-sailed tall ship rigged as a brigantine that was originally owned and operated by Keating Willcox. Formidable was designed by Thomas E. Colvin from the original plans of James D. Rosborough and built by Consolidated Yachts of City Island, NY in 2000.

Formidable’s original home port was Gloucester, Massachusetts, but was docked at the Boston Waterboat Marina during the summer and offered daily cruises of Boston Harbor from May through September from 2002 through 2008. The Formidable also participated in special harbor battle re-enactments throughout the summer with her sister ship, the Poincare, starting in 2005.

The Tall Ship Formidable is now owned and operated by Captain Russ Tryder of Pirate Ship Charters, and sails from Tuna Wharf at her new home port of Rockport, Maine.
